La Roux – La Roux

I started the British Pop kick with Bastille, and so I have been going through it, exploring, see what else I could find. My next stop on the tour brought me to La Roux. And, I don’t know what I think of it, I don’t mind her voice, I don’t think the music is bad, it kind of a bit to aggressive sounding to chill out and listen to, and not quite amped up enough to do any kind of dancing to (not that I dance anyway). It isn’t too bad to work to. I imagine that it is nice to drive to maybe. But all in all I feel like this is just in the field of it is fine, but I don’t love it. I don’t know what I want out of my listening experience when I listen to this, but I don’t feel like I am getting whatever that intangible indescribable factor that great pop music has.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

This album took me back to the days of listening to my local alternative station in my teenage years. Hearing The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ one hit they had. They stay true to the sound I remember. It feels like before, which is surprising. A fair amount of bands can’t keep their sound and especially their voice the same after all these years. But they have done it in this case. If you liked them back in the 90′s you will like this album just as much, if you didn’t, you still won’t. They are like a pair of shoes you put on 10-15 years later and they feel just as comfortable as they did then, now if I could just get my old shoes to actually feel just as comfortable.

The Good Natured – Skeleton EP

More British Pop, surprised? You shouldn’t be. Really a lot like I feel about La Roux, except one key difference. The voice. I have a soft spot for accents, British ones especially. And Sarah McIntosh, the groups lead singer carries through. I hear that voice and I am automatically more in favor. Otherwise my feelings are pretty similar, it is fine, maybe listening to Bastille has ruined me and all others fall short.
